Job Title: Patent Engineer Position: u-blox develops leading products in the areas of navigation technology and wireless communications. Resulting from our research activities a number of patent applications are filed in the course of development of new products. At the same time, the patenting activities in the relevant areas of technology need to be monitored and analyzed. The Patent Engineer will thus have two main fields of activities: The first activity is to support the application of u-blox patents. To this end, the Patent Engineer will gather and assess patent ideas from our designers and prepare the patent application. The Patent Engineer thus will drive the process of patent idea creation and will guide our designers in identification of promising fields of know-how and technology. The Patent Engineer then will follow the application process, prepare the answers to any office actions resulting from the examination and ensure the patent finally gets granted. In communication with the patent offices, the patent engineer will be supported by contracted patent attorneys. The second activity is monitoring and analysis of third party patenting activities. The purpose is to identify potentially conflicting patents or applications, to observe new technology development, and also to assist our designers in assessing the IP situation for an actual design. The Patent Engineer will use online services for regular monitoring of patenting activities in the relevant fields of technology. He will analyze potentially conflicting patents, search prior art and suggest strategies to avoid conflicts in our designs. u-blox is looking for an engineer with a solid experience in communications technology, from RF to signal processing and related SW algorithms, who has already some experience in patent filing. A broad interest and ability to quickly absorb new ideas combined with a strong motivation to contribute to the companies IPR situation can form ideal grounds for success in this position. Profile:
